Jesus, Fact and Fiction

Join our after-service talk as we explore the spaces where belief and storytelling meet!

Who were Jesus’s parents? Could he read and write? How confidently can we attribute the sayings in the Gospels to him? And what should we make of the miracle stories?

Join church member Martyn Baguley as he explores these questions and more, considering what we can know about Jesus and where history, belief and storytelling meet.

This talk is an invitation to explore, with no religious knowledge or belief required. People of all faiths and none are welcome. We ask everyone to bring curiosity and respect for other perspectives, with a willingness to listen rather than a need to persuade.

Come with your questions. You don’t need to arrive with the answers.

Lunchtime Gathering - Wednesdays at One

The middle of the week is a strange gap. The weekend’s gone, the next one isn’t close, sometimes all we need is time to catch up with ourselves.

So from Wednesday 16 September, St Mark’s is open every Wednesday, 1pm to 1.45pm.

Music, candlelight, a reading, some quiet — and a bit of conversation too, because things are often better for being said out loud with other people in the room.

No need to have been before. Bring your lunch, bring a friend, or just come as you are. Tea afterwards for anyone not rushing back.

Exploring Unitarianism

A new, 5 week online course; for anyone who’s been coming along and would like to know more about what Unitarianism actually is — and equally for people who’ve never set foot in St Mark’s and are simply curious.

Week 1 — 23 September How did you get here?
Week 2 — 30 September Many paths, one room
Week 3 — 7 October What holds us together
Week 4 — 14 October The shapes we keep
Week 5 — 21 October Where we go from here

Each session runs 75 minutes on Zoom. Rev. Janine Sim will talk for about ten minutes; and ask questions in between, the rest of the evening belongs to the group. There’s a break in the middle and we finish on time.
